Right now for the second graders we’re studying comparative adjectives. As a warmup for the class one of the teachers made a true/false quiz about Obama. It began innocently enough.

1. Obama is taller than I am.

Nothing wrong with that.

2. Obama is the youngest American president.

Nothing wrong with that either.

3. Obama thinks that basketball is more interesting than baseball.

I had no idea what the answer was, but that question is fine too.

4. Obama is the first president of black people in America.

Whoah there, stop the presses. Ha, I always knew that black people in America were a lawless bunch that ran around like the pure anarchists they are. This teacher obviously just confirmed said fact.

Or on the other hand, he committed a small grammatical mistake that drastically altered the meaning of the sentence. I forgive you, dear teacher.
