Playing hooky with music and more unicycle parts
Oh, the musical opportunities I’ve been passing up here.
This evening Beth was able to go back in time and mingle in with a bunch of goth high school Japanese girls–the fantasy of many men and a dream come true for Beth, I’m sure. You see, tonight Beth fulfilled this fantasy by attending Dir en grey’s concert in Tokyo tonight. It sounds like it was awesome, and with me being a big fan of both Beth and underage Japanese girls (coincidence?) I most certainly wish I could have gone. Unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be, with it being on a workday afterall.
Furthermore, I’m going to gracing Tokyo with my presence three times within the next four weeks. That’s starts to add up to a decent amount of cash, and I wasn’t quite ready to bump that up to four visits in five weeks. It was also this logic that kept me from going to this gem of a concert–

Yeah, it’s a GuitarFreaks/Drummania concert, and damn, I wanted to go, but it’s really just too many trips to Tokyo in too short of a time. Damn you Tokyo for ruining my life! Bring more shit to pitiful Fukushima! Though actually, today I realized they came close.
Earlier this evening I made one of my intermittent trips to the arcade and noticed that among the many posters they always have up, they had one for a DDR Fan Meeting. So I read the poster and find that it’s a concert thing with interviews with Bemani artists and Naoki will be there, etc, and my heart pitterpattered with excitement. Even better yet, it was going to be in Sendai, which is a short ¥1,600 round trip trip. Woot, I’m going!
Unfortunately it was nearly a month ago, and for some reason I never noticed it. Sadness ensued. Sigh, it seems my sole concert I’ve gone to here will remain the brilliant green. Of course, the many posters of the DJ Troopers helped to cheer me up a ltitle bit, just a little.

So the troops arrive on the 19th, Wednesday. One thing that’s cool here is that most arcades upgrade the games on the day that the new game is released. In the US if an arcade somehow got it a week after release for a Bemani game, it would be absolutely amazing. Here, that’ll make you lose business. Thing is, there are so many friggin’ songs on IIDX Gold that I’ve never heard nor played, this upgrade really doesn’t mean much to me except that there’ll be more people playing and thus, less of me. I rarely play IIDX now.
New Subject
Remember how I had Yen to USD to Euro to Won problems while ordering unicycle parts from Korea? Well, apparently money is of no concern to them. Apparently once I placed the order, even though the credit card transaction was rejected, they sent my parts out anyway. While I did go back and pay via PayPal, that payment has still yet to clear as of this typing.
Now to my surprise, yesterday (that would be about 48 hours after the initial order) I answered the door to find a delivery guy with my unpaid-for unicycle parts. Now that’s customer service, right there.
Actually I think, from this and the tone of their emails, that they’re just so freakin’ happy to make a sell and build a name for themselves that they just sent it out without really thinking about, you know, money.
So I’m a bit behind the times and just now finally grabbed a T7 Handle. And a railed seatpost. And a Kris Holm Freeride saddle.

And hey, you can’t beat orange. You can’t. Don’t even try.
So due to the prompt, if not well thought-out on their behalf, service, I’ll throw out my recommendation for Unicycle.kr for higher-end unicycle parts if you live in Asia, and Jugglingshop.co.kr if you like funky beats and unicycle in Korea because I’m sure that I have many unicycle enthusiasts living in Asia that read this.
For the record, Jugglingshop.co.kr has replaced Winamp for my funky beat needs.

Added on July 8th, 2008 at 9:49 pmAhh.
I’m still in Japan and am planning on staying here for the next few years.
I actually will be heading down to the Tokyo area this upcoming weekend, but it’s to see my girlfriend off as she returns to America. As cool as it would be to meet someone new in Tokyo and go riding around the city, I’m not going to be seeing my girlfriend again for six months. You know how that goes.
Anyway, enjoy your trip. It seems like you have a pretty nifty vacation planned out. Especially have fun at UNICON!
And my girlfriend says the DEG puts on great live shows and it sucks that you can’t get to one of the their concerts.
