Very cool. I'm still only using Final Cut Express but have heard cool things about Premiere and After Effects. Very impressive work!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I edit everything in Premiere using placeholder titles for the titles/maps, create the maps in After Effects, then import the rendered maps into Premiere.

For the maps in After Effects, the simple explanation is that I'm using 3D layers with keyframed camera movements. For the tracks, I used the pen tool to manually draw the tracks on the map (the opening title sequence took quite some time because of this...). Once you get the lines drawn, you can keyframe the start/end percentages to draw/undraw the progression of the line.

"Oh shit...I think she can hear me!" Haha...y'all are great.

I'm curious about some of your techniques. What program do you use to edit? And how did you animate the maps? Great stuff, and I can't wait for Eps 3 and 4.

A new Travel Channel original series: AD's Gaijin Express.

Next episode: DRAMA. RICE. SUNBURN. WILL THEY MAKE IT IN TIME?

But seriously, good stuff. Keep making these.

Mr. Pachiguy, I was so taken aback when I first came across your blog because I was under the false assumption that I had chosen a sufficiently obscure and unlikely hobby that had a very low probability of any other westerner developing. I was sorely mistaken. Our methods are different, but it seems that our interests lie closer than I ever expected to find on the English-language Internet.

My studies at Purdue, while not abandoned Japanese railways, were relevant enough to this in that I majored in film/video and minored in East Asian studies. They were a jumping-off point, if you will.

At a loss for words, unusually. I most admire the insane oddness and obscurity of the quest. We must be the only three Westerners (you, Beth, and me) on the planet with anything more than the faintest consciousness of the Haboro line. Great video taking and editing skills too. What did you major in at Purdue? It wasn't abandoned Japanese railway lines, I take it.

I think it was just blind luck that I commented so quickly - I happened to be up going through my RSS feed and noticed the new post. Actually, I was procrastinating from working on a video of my own...much shorter.
